Watford, Hertfordshire's largest town, is another built on the old Roman road of Akeman Street. From modern buildings to 16th century houses Watford has a wide mix of buildings. The new roads that bypass the town has to my idea spoilt it to a large extent though. As the famous poet John Betjemen once said of Watford, "Hertfordshire's largest, ugliest and noisiest town" though there are pleasant areas in Watford if you care to look for them.
