Lying just a few miles to the north west of St. Albans is the village of Redbourn built on the old Roman road of Watling Street. It used to have a railway station but the line was closed and the track is now a foot path.

This is a photo of the town centre looking north. The road used to be a lot busier but the village now has a bypass and the road through the town is a lot quieter since. In the village is a house called The Red House where Queen Elizabeth I, then Princess Elizabeth slept when she was taken ill whilst on a journey from Hatfield House.

The Bull public house in Redbourn.
Basically the building is sixteenth century with eighteenth century additions. It was once an important stop for stage coaches to the north west.

The Saracen's Head is another of Redbourn's pubs. When stage coaches were still running there were 18 inns in the village.
