The county of Hertfordshire lies just north of the metropolis of London, England. With a population of about 1.2 million people in an area of approximately 630 square miles it is one of the smallest of the English counties. 25 miles more or less from north to south and 35 miles at its greatest, east to west, from Royston in the north to Elstree in the south, from Bishop Stortford in the east to Tring in the west.
The county town is Hertford, of saxon origin built where three rivers meet. The Beane, Lea and Mimram.
The county of Hertfordshire is mainly agricultural with industry mostly within the few larger towns, namely Watford, Borehamwood, St. Albans and Letchworth.
